Engine oil

Engine oil or engine lubricant is any of the various substances used to lubricate internal combustion engines. As a rule, they consist of base oils, reinforced with various additives, detergents. The main function of engine oil is to reduce friction and wear of moving parts. It also neutralizes acids arising from fuel and due to the oxidation of lubricant, improves the sealing of piston rings and cools the engine, carrying heat from moving parts. One of the most important points that you need to correctly understand when choosing oil for your car is the right type of engine oil. If we look at the label, we will see several digits, for example, 10W-40 or 5W-30. These figures indicate the viscosity or "thickness" of the oil. Thinner oils – those with a lower viscosity – also help to save fuel. Most oils have two sets of numbers, as they are a "multi-stage" oil.Oil additives mean that it can change viscosity depending on temperature. The lower the first number, the better the oil will work at low temperatures – hence the "W" digit, which means winter. The lower the second number, the better it will work at higher temperatures. Although you can mix oil of different brands and even different classes without severely damaging the engine, it is still recommended to use the same oil if you can.
